A few weeks ago the base of the mountain that I live in was hit with “back to back” fires. Under 500 acres were burned and we’re extremely grateful for the local firefighters who have been on high alert during this year’s fire season. They have been the lifesavers of the mountain and surrounding communities!
✶
I decided to visit the damaged hillside and do an intuitive reading. I brought two decks with me, the Lumina Tarot and the Pagan Otherworlds, to explore the possibilities as to why these fires had taken place. I began with the Lumina Tarot as it’s my most earthy, nature-centric deck that I have and then followed up with the Pagan Otherworlds.
I did a three-card “conscious/subconscious” reading to delve deeper into the issues. Surprisingly, I pulled the “King of Swords” (conscious intention), “5 of Pentacles” (subconscious/underlying root of action), and “Maiden of Cups” (the bridge between the conscious/subconscious).
✶

In this case, the “King of Swords” (conscious intent) represents the negative side.
This is a manipulative individual who uses the mind for power and control. This person is self-empowered by destructive behavior and the only control (in their mind) is by enacting destruction. This person has a sharp mind and a vindictive personality who may be difficult to pin down.
The “5 of Pentacles” (the underlying root of action) is a partial factor. There has been a great personal or financial loss that this person has gone through and the lack of support (emotionally and monetarily) is overbearing.
The “Maiden of Cups” (the bridge between the conscious/subconscious) is the key between these two realms. This could represent the anima (female) side of this individual who has never connected with. It’s also possible that there is a female influence who has spurned his heart.
✣

In comparison, the reading I did with the “Pagan Otherworlds” gave an in depth perspective towards the situation. “Ace of Pentacles” (conscious intention), “9 of Wands” (subconscious/underlying root of action), and “The Moon (18)” (the bridge between the conscious/subconscious).
The “Ace of Pentacles” provides some intriguing insight that this person possibly needs to assess how they value their material desires. The question to ask is “what is the core issue regarding this”? Perhaps there has been a struggle either obtaining or securing material wealth. Let’s see what the 9 of Wands reveals at a deeper personal level.
The “9 of Wands” represents the culmination of recent struggles. This person has used up their resources and energies and is worn down. Their psyche is broken and fear is rising out towards the conscious. I feel this outcome will turn out in two ways. The person will either surrender or will be found through an outside tip. The Moon card holds the key for the 9 of Wands.
“The Moon (18)” connects the conscious and subconscious aspects of this scenario.
This card represents the shadow side of our inner ‘Self. Anxiety and personal insecurities are at their peak. This person has a distorted view of how they see themselves and their personal environment.
In conclusion, this person is making what it thinks are (mentally) sound choices in dealing with its own challenges. The setting of fires for this person is a spontaneous release of emotions and self-empowerment. They are temporary episodes of escape from the anguish and depression that is happening with this person. And I can only hope that this individual will find peace and cease the destructive behavior.
