“Curiosity”and “Facing Fear”
• First Decan 0º-10º May 22nd- May 31st
• Mercury in Gemini
• Third House of Communication
Mutable Gemini (May 20th/21st -June 19th/20th), ruled by the planet of Mercury, is the masculine and feminine air sign of duality and communication. Gemini is about having versatility in their perspective of life from the way one communicates (talking, writing, and natural body gestures), to making choices, and social interaction. As a mutable sign, Gemini has a natural means of learning things quickly, seeing different perspectives, and multi-tasking. This continual movement of the mind allows Gemini the space it needs to be adaptable in any situation.
During this first decan, the “Unified Esoteric Tarot” places “Mercury in Gemini” indicating a time of “Curiosity” in our overall perspective. In this decan, Mercury’s influence on Gemini is at home here within its ruling sign. Mercury is the messenger of current information and knowledge. How it is (intellectually) received, processed, and expressed. The inquisitive side of Gemini’s mind becomes stimulated through the desire of wanting to learn and to be well informed of what is happening around them.
The “Eight of Swords“ is seen as a mental stalemate or conflict; whether self-imposed or placed upon. This can be read as being too overwhelmed in our thoughts and not being able to make a decisive motion to move ahead. The inner fear and self doubt can cause paralyzing thoughts that one cannot see what lies ahead. The ideas of potential risks and uncertainty needs to be overcome and to be replaced with resolutions and possibilities.
The “Dreams of Gaia”, “Forest of Enchantment“, and the“Dreamkeepers Tarot” all share a varying perspective on the “Eight of Swords”, but personified. There are three scenes indicating fear, ego driven choices, and personal entrapment. All caused by allowing the mind to take hold of ones (hidden) weakness and then to justify the lack of action or wrong choices for the sake of not facing the truth of the matter. Only the individual can free ones Self by seeing the truth for what it is.
The “Tarot of the Holy Light”, “Pagan Otherworlds”, and “Oak Ash and Thorn” has the “Eight of Swords” in the pip realm. The focus is on the Swords solely by themselves. The Swords are depicted firmly rooted in the ground and criss-crossed indicating either a standstill or a continuation of conflict. These Sword environments are very direct and best to ask “how one will remove its Self from the situation”? Choose your battles wisely and know how much you can take on and become self empowered from the experience. Open your heart for guidance at this time.
Use the guidance of the “Eight of Swords“ as a mindful awakening to face any challenge, whether self imposed or not, with acceptance, honesty, and courage. Consider your thoughts and action beforehand and what the potential consequences could lead to. We take our thoughts with us, good or bad, wherever we are. It is in the manner of how wisely and rationally we use these Swords to cut through the deepest recesses of what is preventing us to face the truth.
✶Please note! The assigned astrological decan on the featured tarot cards does not correspond with the current astrological sign and planet placement. The “Unified Esoteric Tarot” has its own astrological correspondences that are used as guides within each card when doing a reading. In addition, the Golden Dawn has its own system of astrological correspondences that I will make specific reference too when doing tarot astrology readings. These correspondences are found primarily in the Thoth Tarot and other similar inspired traditional decks.
