ACE OF SWORDS: “Root of the Powers of Air”. Meleen states, this is the“First Force, of invoking the powers of Reason.”. “To Know” is the ascending force of the Ace of Swords. An initiatory calling upon the astral energies of Kether. The Sword is pointed upward and the 22 lettered points (palisades) of the crown enveloping the sword are being activated through the supreme light rays of the Divine Conscious (Kether), Understanding (Binah/Mother) and Wisdom (Chokmah/Father). This act of consecration is being alchemically initiated from the Magus’ combining of Will (fire) and Love (water). This allows the Sword to be wielded as a force of pure light, love, and truth. The all seeing eye (Hod/Truthfulness) and the coiled serpent at the base of the sword is the rooted transformed Spirit that is hidden and soon to be revealed. The Air elemental symbol, mutable formed upward triangle, is a protective force for the sword’s ascension, and positioned over Tiphareth invokes a force of direct movement into Daath, “Gateway of Knowledge”. I see the pyramids as edifices as temple of the dissolution of the Ego that has consciously transformed the Soul and begins the ascent to higher knowledge. The plumes of grey smoke are the initiatory development of Will and Love rising to Reason then to Wisdom. There are many aspects to the Ace of Swords that can govern its rightly use, but it is clear the power of the Sword is willingly to sever through deceit, reveal truth, and to maintain Justice through “Divine Authority”.

PRINCESS OF SWORDS: “Earth of Air” and “Princess of the Rushing Winds”. She is the communicator of the element of Air who has been initiated to utilize the power of the Sword as a tool of great knowledge. Thoughts and ideas are now formed and her role is taking rightful action based on these forces. Her approach can be one of justice, avenging, or liberating. As she is from the heavens, her perspective is wide and visionary. She is “The Star” archetype ruled by Aquarius, her expression is “I Know” as one of the four invoking elemental powers of the Kerubic (fixed) signs. She heals through truthfulness and reveals by cutting through any irrelevance to get to the center of a definitive purpose. This gives her the clear discernment to make well honed decisions based from the merging of the (ego liberated) conscious and subconscious. It is utilizing the balance of Will and Love, “Know Thy Self, Love Thy Self.”

The Princess of Swords’ aegis crest is of Medusa representing support of the Princess’ actions, as well as her helmet as the protective containment of her perceptions. The quadrant space that the Princess of Swords governs is °0 Capricorn- 30° Pisces, the season of Winter. A time to start planning and being decisive with your actions for the Spring season. Representing The Star (Aquarius) of the winter season, the Princess is placed between The Devil (Capricorn) and The Moon (Pisces). This is her association between the realm of matter and the astral plane. “The Devil” challenges and forms structured discipline on the test of personal Willpower, from this one gains knowledge of their own weaknesses and releasing of the ego Self. The Moon awakens the intuitive nature of the Princess. She has mastered the skill of the unseen in decision making and rides the currents of her subconscious. Looking away she trusts her inner judgement.

This Princess is Earth of Air. AIR is the last of the three elements before the “Final He” of earth. Alchemically, she is the rising smoke formation of Fire and Water. She is pure inside and out in her perspectives, which doesn’t give a tainted aspect to her element of Air. Her calling is “To Know” and therefore sees both sides of an idea before taking action. When her intuition speaks she quickly asserts herself and moves forward. If not carefully utilized, the Sword can be used maliciously and in a destructive manner. To avoid this, maintain a purity of the will and heart.

ACE OF DISKS: “Root of the Powers of Earth”. This is “Hé Final” (Yod, Hé Vau Hé) with Kether in the realm of Matter (Malkuth). These are forces that bring about matter. This card has added magical complexities of which I’m still learning about, so I will focus on the imagery at a basic level. Here is Harpocrates/Babylon seated within the winged blue egg of creation in the sphere of Malkuth. The lotus seated egg looks to be placed within the sephira of Tiphareth showing the beautiful end result of Fire, Water, and Air elements conjoined to create the daughter/mother. “To Keep Silence” is the subtle force of the Ace of Disks. What is known is to be held silent, emotions and intellect are held in composure. There is a grounding of all senses that allows one to connect to the higher Self. This is the Spirit ready to be birthed into the material world. I also sense this could be The Empress influence in the sphere of Netzach as the shades of green are alluding to fertility. There is also the color scales of citrine (Hod + Netzach) , olive (Netzach + Yesod), russet (Hod + Yesod), and black (the sephiroth colors combined) forming the four parts of Malkuth in the realm of Assiah. These colors become a large swirling force that surrounds and seemingly lifts the egg above the valley. The eyes of the crocodile (Sebek) is seen lurking as a reminder of the powers to devour and to incarnate. Here is the highest form of Spirit that will reincarnate and reemerge as the Fool (0) to begin the next incarnation of the Self.

PRINCESS OF DISKS: “Earth of Earth” and “Princess of the Echoing Hills”. Representing the “masculine within the feminine”. The force and form have now joined to create the “perfected spirit”, This is the result from the root of the powers of earth, Ace of Disks. Meleen mentions the Princess of Disks as “the temple rightly made, ready and receiving the spark of Yod”. The force of Yod therefore fills her inner being with the power of Will leading to great potential. She is the creator, protector and regenerator of Earth, thus being the fifth power of Spirit synthesizing the four powers of “To Will, To Dare, To Know, and To Keep Silence”. This culmination of these powers is her action to transform the spirit (“To Go“) from Malkuth (Earth of Earth) and to begin the ascension to Kether (Divine Spirit).

The winged ram’s crest above her initiates the beginning of a new cycle. The ram is ruled by Aries which in Tropical astrology ushers in the season of Spring. The ram’s head can be seen as an inverted pentacle representing man’s descent to earth From the her enclosed form within the orphic egg in the Ace of Disks, the Princess has firmly planted her connection to the fertile hills, proudly wearing the ram’s horns, and rising along with the dawning of a new day. Astrologically, she rules the season of Spring from 0°Aries to 0°Gemini. Being that she is Earth of Earth, the Princess represents the earth sign of Taurus that is assigned to The Hierophant. The one who holds the keys to the spiritual knowledge of the forces of the world. The Princess of Disks is placed between fiery Aries (Emperor) who initiates the force of Willpower and airy Gemini (Lovers) who unites the above with the below our Princess of Disks. These forces powerfully root her in the worldly kingdom of Malkuth.

Within the court cards, we see the sequence of how the Princess was willed upon from the Ace of Wands then manifested into the Princess of Wands, then formed in the Ace of Cups into the gracefulness of the Princess of Cups, and so forth. As the Princess of Disks, the material realm has been achieved with the completion of the “perfected soul”. No more that needs to be done, except “To Go” and continue the next incarnation of the highest Self. This is the constant (re)evolution within every being. It is force and form, and yet limitless and infinite.
