For the astrological month of April 19th/20th-May 19th/20th, I will be discussing the sign of Taurus, it’s earth element of Coins/Pentacles, and its tarot card of influence, “The Hierophant”.
TAURUS CHARACTER BACKGROUND: Ruled by the feminine qualities of Venus (the goddess of love and beauty) this sign appreciates the finer things in life and can see the value in things. It is the first (Fixed) sign in the astrological cycle and its natural element is Earth which sets the foundation for stability, security, and reliability of this sign. There is a love for all things nature-oriented and that awakening of the pleasure senses makes Taurus one of the most sensual signs of the zodiac. The Bull is the ruling animal that is steadfast and direct in its actions. Once Taurus has its eyes set on a goal it remains focused until completed. The Taurus “♉︎” glyph symbol features the horns, at times, representing the opposing phases of the crescent moon, and resting on a circle (head) representing the sun’s willpower.
TAROT CARD: The Hierophant (5) can be portrayed as either male or female, but ideally represents the masculine (animus) side of spiritual energy. The Hierophant is traditionally seen seated between the two pillars that represent light and dark energy. The Hierophant is the mediator between these two realms. He/She represents either a teacher or a guide within one’s life, traditional ways of thinking, wisdom, and the sharing of experiences with others. The Hierophant follows a structured spiritual and/or philosophical belief system.
SEASON INFLUENCE: The month of Taurus runs April 19th – May 20th. And the season it influences is mid Spring. This time of mid Spring showcases nature at its peak with blooming flowers, animals of nature are moving out of hibernation and exploring the renewal of a new season.
LIFE PATH NUMBER: “5”, new cycles, versatility, pleasures, conflict, and loss. This is an individual who likes to take risks at the expense of responsibilities. Fives can be filled with carnal desires and are multi-faceted in their perspective. They are connected to all aspects of Nature, such as the flora and fauna.
DAY OF THE WEEK: Friday (ruled by Venus) is a day to focus on romance, self-care, and partnerships. A time to spend with friends and intimate relationships.
COLOR INFLUENCE: Green, browns, pale colors, and earthy colors. Green influences loyalty and rejuvenation. Browns and earthy tones allow for grounding and centering. Pale colors are for purification, elegance, and grace.
PERSONALITY: “I HAVE” – Feminine, reliable, patient, having a strong will and work ethic, practical, and affectionate. Taureans are dedicated workers once they have chosen what their heart desires. They will work hard for their material gains and will put care into preserving its value.
OPPOSING TRAITS: Stubborn, dislikes changes, opinionated, and overly possessive. These fixed characteristics can make a Taurus come across as either a very stolid persona or an overprotective individual. Taureans are known for being private within their lives.
RULING BODY: The neck and throat. Known for a strong speaking and singing voice, the area around the throat needs to be protected as they are susceptible to colds, and overuse of the voice can cause laryngitis. Warm drinks are best for soothing the throat and wearing scarfs and high neck sweaters during the winter season is encouraged for the prevention of any throat ailments.
ASTROLOGY’S SECOND HOUSE: In Astrology, Taurus rules the Second House of “Money and Possessions”. This shows your relationship with money and your possessions. The second house provides insight into various forms of financial investments that have been made and how you earn and maintain your finances. It could also reveal sources of income that could be profitable.
PARTNER AND POLAR TAROT CARDS: The partner card to the Hierophant is the “High Priestess“. Representing the female (anima) intuition, the High Priestess is ruled by the Moon. She is the essence of esoteric wisdom, inner knowledge and understands the secrets of the unknown. All of this she holds sacred to herself unless called upon.
The opposing (polar) card for the Hierophant is “Death (13)”, which is ruled by Scorpio. The “Death” card represents new beginnings and transformation, while the Hierophant card is of set traditional values and belief systems. Both the Hierophant and the Death cards can be complementary to each other. Death shows the release of old patterns and habits and the beginning of a new perspective. This gives way to the Hierophant’s teachings and the sharing of self-discipline and spiritual core values to better understand one’s potential and to reveal the true ‘Self.

I love it lol. 5 is my life path number, taurus is my ascendant and moon sign; I have a stellium in my sun sign Scorpio (incl. pluto). I’m also a teacher. 😎

It’s always interesting to see how astrology and the tarot can further define who we are. Somehow, the Hierophant looks to be a late coming influence for me.
